There tends to be an upsurge in certain criminal activity to an extent during the Carnival period. Take measure to reduce your chances of becoming a victim of these Hooligans.
- Avoid going out with expensive jewelry or anything that may attract the attention of thieves.
- Ensure children (and maybe even some adults) in your care have name tags on with your number listed as a contact in case they get lost
- Teach kids/ pre adolescents etc. how to deal with unknown persons approaching them.
- A tracking device on your vehicle may assist in prompt recovery even if it is stolen
- Know how to locate the closest police or police station when at parties or on the streets for Carnival.
RAZE: J’OUVERT
For those who prefer the mud/ paint/ oil/ powder and chocolate side of Carnival, please take note:
- Ensure you secure your property (vehicles, jewelry, phones etc.) safely
- Stay with friends and get to the J’ouvert band’s meeting point quickly, it is not advisable to wander around aimlessly during the wee hours of Carnival Monday.
- If you have allergies/ sensitivities to dust/ paints etc, take the necessary precautions to stay out of the way of revelers.
- Be careful of your body placement around the moving music and drink trucks in order to avoid injuries.
