The Central Bank of Trinidad & Tobago has announced that effective July 1, 2017 the 1 cent coins will no longer be issued and a 1 cent coin redemption drive will be announced. The Central Bank will continue to issue 5, 10 and 25 cents coins.
The Central Bank has published Cash Rounding Guidelines which relates to receiving payments on bills and these Guidelines do not relate to receiving payments by cheque or electronically with a debit or credit card.
Individual prices do not need to be rounded. Only the final total of the bill is rounded when the customer is paying by cash. No indication has yet been given when the 1 cents coin will be taken out of circulation so you can still receive the 1 cent coin if tendered by the customer. You will not be required to give change in 1 cent coins.
